Peterborough Small Business Awards 2020/2021 - By Luxe Artist Emma

The theme for the 2021 Peterborough Small Business Awards was bright. The Luxe Beauty team decided that we were going to wear black dresses… queue my confusion. Why would we wear black dresses to a theme with a bright dress code? In hindsight, I’m glad I decided to stick with the team’s decision!

How hard could it be to find a black dress? Very hard, actually. I kept asking “can’t we just actually get some bright dresses?” No. Imagine my surprise when we turned up and 90% of the guests were also in black dresses… We had bright neon shoes and bags at least?

Anyway, enough about my outfit… we had actually made it out! The Awards unfortunately didn’t get to happen in 2020 due to COVID (like every over event planned for 2020!). Last time we were at the Awards, we were feeling so many emotions as a team. We were one of the nominees in the beauty category against some fantastic other companies. You could say tensions were pretty high! As sheer hard work and determination would have it, we ended up winning the category! Not to mention winning the People’s Choice Award and runner up for the whole competition the same year! We danced and partied pretty hard that night.

This year it felt so odd to be out at an event, but so welcome at the same time. All of the team were on separate weddings that finished a little later than usual, leaving us with limited time to get ready for that evening. This meant that none of us had time to have Abbie do our makeup for the event, which is our usual tradition, and I had to settle for doing it during my hair appointment, multitasking at its finest!

A Bright blue eye look and a sleek half up, hand down hair style later and we were ready to head out. After arriving slightly late, (slightly late but worth the wait… as I usually say) we were quickly seated for the event.

We were seated on the sponsors table alongside Bulley Davey accountancy firm, and SimplifyER right at the front, ready to enjoy the hosting and performances from Teddi the incredible drag act.

Everyone looked amazing and it was so lovely to see so many familiar faces.

We spent some time chatting with the other businesses on our table, which soon lead to shots for the table, how could we resist? After all, its been a long time coming waiting for this event, and it was a great chance to celebrate.

After our 3 course meal, it was time for the awards to start, which saw some well deserved winners from many of the categories that included “new business of the year, Service business of the year, retail business etc”

As the winners of the previous year and a Judge this year, Abbie was called onto stage to announce the winner of the beauty category. Earlier on in the year Abbie had judged the interviews for this category and the points from this, as well as the public vote joined together, determined the winner of the category.

The well deserved winner was .... “Kerry Louise Cosmetics!” Kerry is a local small business who is known for her medical grade laser hair removal and has worked incredibly hard to gain such a high reputation.

After lots of drinks, celebrating, and partying, the night came to an end. It was a pleasure to be a part of the Peterborough Small Business Awards again this year, and the be able to hand over the best beauty business of the year title, as well as having an amazing night out with the team.

We were sadly missing Megan at the awards this year, so we're looking forward to next year where hopefully we will be able to attend as a full team.
